Benefit Dinner at Sportsmen's Club for Child's Heart Surgery

The first time I met Chris Engle, we carpooled from Gaylord to Alpena with Dave Smethurst for a town hall meeting on the Land Cap Bill. Since then, I've found that his columns in the Gaylord Herald-Times are full of humor, information and a unique perspective on what's going on in the north woods, helping to fill a void that's been missing for about a year and a half. One week he tackles tough political issues that affect the places where we hunt and fish, and the next he might provide insight on a new fly pattern or profile a river restoration project.

He provides conservationists and sportsmen the information we need, whether to write a letter to our legislators, fish a new pattern, or volunteer to repair a riverbank or improve a road crossing. Through his writing, he improves our outdoor experiences and the places where we have them. Right now though, his family could use a little help. His beautiful baby daughter was born premature with heart complications, and the medical expenses have been pretty tough. A benefit dinner is being held next Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Northland Sportsmen's Club near Gaylord, and I encourage everyone who enjoys northern Michigan's woods and waters to show up and help out a fellow conservationist. His colleague Mike Jones has the details below in this Herald-Times article. Hope to see you there! - DY
